About the Film

Silenced is a 7‑minute short film written and directed by emerging filmmaker and director Shaniqua Martins-Evans and was produced by Mouth That Roars (MTR).

Filmed in Hackney with a cast and crew of local young people, the story follows Tasha, a young woman is thinking of using her social media platform to speak out about issues she cares deeply about. Her decision sparks tension within her friendship group and raises questions about courage, consequences, and the power of young voices. The film explores peer pressure, self-expression, and the courage it takes to use your voice even when those closest to you won’t listen.

About Shaniqua Martin-Evans

Shaniqua is a filmmaker driven by a passion for visual storytelling and meaningful narratives. Her interest in film began after watching A Silent Voice and The Red Turtle, which showed her how powerful stories can be told through images alone. Through hands-on experience on set and in creative spaces, she has grown as both a storyteller and collaborator. Shaniqua aims to create authentic films that centre underrepresented voices and tell stories that genuinely resonate with audiences.
